Hardbacked Notebook Workshop

This workshop is the first step in becoming a bookbinder, and opens the door to all sorts of binding styles. Although this doesn't have for be THE first step, you will learn the fundamentals of good binding that will stand you in good stead should you wish to try any other binding styles later. You will learn about paper grain and it's importance to binding, measuring, cutting, trimming, sewing and gluing. We learn to safely handle the knives and sharp tools common to binding and become familiar with other tools and techniques. We will talk about design and ways you can make your books unique and individual.

There is a maximum of 8 students for this workshop, guaranteeing time and space for individual attention if extra help is needed. The atmosphere is friendly, relaxed and chatty, with a break for lunch. There are tea and coffee making facilities on site and I will supply a cake. (If you have special dietary needs please let me know and I will do my best to accommodate.)

The workshop is held at Westridge Studios, Star Lane, Highclere, RG20 9QS      The room we use is on the first floor, there is no lift, so access is by a flight of stairs.

This workshop is for over 18's; if you are under 18 please ask an appropriate adult to contact me to discuss.

Participants must have good grip, and normal strength in both hands as we will be using several very sharp knives. This is for your own safety. If this or the first floor nature of this course is a problem for you please get in touch as a 1:1 class in your home may be more appropriate and can be arranged.

Cancelation - If you give 14 days notice then there is a 50%  refund. Less than 14 days notice is non refundable.
